We can all agree, heroes deserve applause, but sometimes we have heroes right in plain sight that deserve some applause. We often see the good guys on the big screen, battling the villains and saving the day just before 90 minutes is up. There are also real-life, larger than life heroes right in our backyard; firemen and women, police men and women, teachers, entrepreneurs, visionaries…the list goes on and on. But have you ever thought of campers and camp counselors as heroes? Camp makes a difference in so many kids’ lives and there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to making camp a happy place. Here are some reasons why campers and camp counselors deserve applause.
Counselors
Being a counselor isn’t easy. Camp counselors have a lot of jobs, and many of those jobs are behind the scenes. They come up with activities that are fun and educational. They build those activities into a workable schedule. They make sure their campers get to field trips and activities on time. They instruct activities with intelligence, love and enthusiasm! They make sure the rules are followed, so every camper stays safe and happy. Needless to say, the work that counselors do is no less than a super hero!
Campers
Remember, you don’t have to be a grown-up to be a hero! Every camper shows their heroic side when they participate and spread kindness at camp. Campers stick together, so when another camper feels apprehensive about activities, someone is bound to help them along. At camp, there are always friends to cheer for you and always someone to pick you up when you feel down. There is always someone to make you feel included. Camp creates heroes by fostering an environment that encourages kids to be good friends to each other. Wouldn’t you say that’s heroic?
